Can I connect CPU fan directly to power supply?

Like 007agentHP said, connecting the cpu cooler fan directly to the power supply will just make it run full speed. There’s no real downside in terms of temps, only in noise maybe.

What kind of cables do PC fans use?

Most cooling fans will connect to a PC with a standard connector of some sort. Modern systems will typically use 3-pin or 4-pin dedicated fan headers, though standard MOLEX 4-pin peripheral connectors are also used. From left to right: A 3-pin connector, a 4-pin connector and a MOLEX connector.

How do you hook up a CPU fan cable?

CPU cooling fans should ALWAYS be plugged into the header that is specifically labeled “CPU Fan” and not “CPU Optional” or any other header. Sometimes these headers are white, but this is not always true.

Does fan splitter reduce fan speed?

No, they will all run the same speed.

Do fans plug into motherboard?

If you want to have your mobo measure the speeds of your case fans, you must plug them into the mobo ports so that the Speed Pulse signals from the fan motors can be sent back to the mobo on Pin 3 of each port. But interestingly, CONTROL of fan speed does NOT link to this signal.

Why do PC fans have 3 wires?

Fan Types. A 3-wire fan has power, ground, and a tachometric (“tach”) output, which provides a signal with frequency proportional to speed. A 4-wire fan has power, ground, a tach output, and a PWM-drive input.

Are all PC fan cables the same?

Power connections Most cooling fans will connect to a PC with a standard connector of some sort. Modern systems will typically use 3-pin or 4-pin dedicated fan headers, though standard MOLEX 4-pin peripheral connectors are also used. Make sure to check what type of fan connector you need before buying your fan.

Can I plug a 4 pin fan into a 3 pin?

You can plug a 4-pin PWM fan connector into a 3-pin terminal on the motherboard without any problems. Without the fourth pin connected, the fan will just run at full speed.

How do you reattach a CPU fan?

Push down on the entire cooler so that all 4 pins are through the motherboard. When you push down on the top black pins, it expands the white plastic pins to fix the cooler in place. The trick to getting it on is to push down on a DIAGONAL pair of pins at the same time. Then the other pair.
